1.2 Usage data

When you visit our websites, you transmit data to our web server via your Internet browser (due to technical requirements). The following data is recorded during an active connection for communication between your Internet browser and our web server:

  • Date and time of the request
  • Name of the requested file
  • Page from which the file was requested
  • Access status (file transferred, file not found, etc.)

For technical security reasons, in particular to defend against attempts to attack our web server, we store this data for a short period of time. We cannot draw any conclusions about individual persons based on this data. After a short period of time at the latest, the data is anonymized by shortening the IP address at the domain level so that it is no longer possible to establish a connection to the individual user. The data is also processed in anonymized form for statistical purposes; it is not compared with other data sets or passed on to third parties, even in excerpts.

Collection and use of personal information

You can use this website without disclosing your personal data. This refers to data that can be used to reveal your identity, such as your name, postal address, or email address. No personal evaluation of the information obtained by our provider when you visit this website takes place. Any personal data you provide on this website is provided on a voluntary basis.

As a matter of principle, the data you submit via our online forms is transmitted to us securely and encrypted. This prevents access by unauthorized third parties. We use the SSL procedure for this purpose, for which our website has been certified by Comodo CA Limited.

SOS Children's Villages collects personal data from donors, fundraising campaign initiators, and interested parties that is necessary for the purposes of fundraising and donation management, processing inquiries, and managing fundraising campaigns. We also use your address and, with your consent, your email address and telephone number in accordance with data protection legislation to send you your (annual) donation receipt and information about our charitable work.

Disclosure of personal information to third parties

Personal data will not be distributed, disclosed, lent, or sold to companies or organizations that are not part of the SOS Children's Villages organizational structure. In the event that third parties are called upon to provide administrative services such as credit card processing, these services will only be purchased on the condition that all personal information is treated as strictly confidential, used exclusively for the purpose of the commissioned services, and in accordance with the principles of SOS Children's Villages worldwide.

You can revoke your consent at any time using the consent management tool.

Cookies for web analysis programs collect and store data in pseudo-anonymous form for marketing and optimization purposes. This data is used to create usage profiles under a pseudonym. • To limit the frequency with which each ad is displayed to you.
  • To display relevant ads that may be tailored to specific target groups (targeting).

These cookies register, for example, visits to our website, measure and analyze the number of transactions (e.g., donations and sponsorships) and clicks in relation to our advertising expenditure. Since these cookies are integrated by the advertising networks we use, we share this information with our partners. However, we do not link our marketing cookies to any information that could personally identify you, nor do we provide any personal information to advertisers or third-party websites.

In principle, you can opt out of participating marketing companies at “Your Online Choices,” an initiative of the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA), which in turn is part of a self-regulatory code of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB): http://www.youronlinechoices.com/de/praferenzmanagement
