Medical aid for families: saving children's lives
Support the medical care of sick children and families in poor countries through the SOS Children's Villages.
Countless children die every day from preventable diseases such as measles or diarrhoea due to a lack of vaccinations, medicines and hospitals in poor countries. The SOS Children's Villages provide medical aid, particularly in African countries. Our health centres and mother and child clinics provide care for children and families.
-
Worldwide the SOS Children's Villages operate 60 medical facilities and health programmes.
-
Our doctors and nurses treated over 600,000 people last year, providing life-saving assistance.

How we help:
Our patients come from near and far. Expectant mothers often travel from over 100 kilometres away! We treat children, adolescents, pregnant women, mothers with their babies, families in need and, of course, children from the SOS Children's Villages as well as employees of the SOS Children's Villages. We offer outpatient treatment and medical assistance in our health centres. Many facilities have their own laboratory, a small ward and a pharmacy. This enables us to save countless children's lives.
-
Basic- and emergency care: Our medical specialists for example help with diarrhoea, respiratory infections, tuberculosis or malaria: diseases that are particularly life-threatening for babies and malnourished children.
-
Midwifery: We help with life-saving operations such as caesarean sections or premature birth care.
-
Prevention of ilness and disease: We protect children from dangerous infectious diseases through vaccination programmes. We also offer mothers from the neighbouring communities courses and information events on hygiene and nutrition, for example to prevent infant diseases and malnutrition.
-
Fighting HIV/AIDS: The epidemic is affecting countless families in southern Africa. We offer tests and counselling, explain the risks of infection and provide antiretroviral medication free of charge.
-
Rehabilitation for children with disabilities: Our rehabilitation centres are often the only source of help for children and young people with disabilities. We are committed to their integration, as they are often hidden and marginalised in poor countries.
-
Medical professionals: Our medical staff is well-trained and experienced doctors, nurses, midwives and laboratory technicians.
