Climate protection is child protection: environmental and climate protection worldwide
Support the projects of SOS Children's Villages and give children and families the chance of a future worth living!
Droughts, crop failures and hunger crises are becoming more frequent, while flood and storm disasters are on the rise: The consequences of climate change are already affecting people in poor countries today. The strong population growth in developing and newly industrialising countries is also accompanied by environmental destruction and overexploitation of nature. Forests are being cut down and water is becoming scarce. The climate crisis is destroying the livelihoods of smallholder farming families, pastoralists and coastal fishermen - and is threatening the future prospects of young people and future generations in particular.
-
Over 500 million children worldwide are exposed to flooding on rivers and coasts.
-
400 million children are at risk from hurricanes.
-
Almost one million children suffer from water shortages and over 800 million - more than a third of all children - from extreme heat.
-
More than 200 million people could be displaced from their homes by the climate crisis over the next three decades and forced to migrate within their own countries.
How we help:
SOS Children's Villages is committed to environmental and climate protection. With our green pilot projects, we accompany children and families into a future worth living and contribute as pioneers to the ecologically sustainable development of communities. Our environmental and climate protection projects combine development cooperation with green technologies.
-
Helping people to help themselves, to arm people in poor countries against the consequences of climate change: drought-resistant seeds, adapted cultivation methods or treadle water pumps for irrigating fields ensure that smallholder families are fed - even when there is no rain.
-
Pioneer for environmental and climate protection technologies: Use of environmentally friendly technologies such as photovoltaics and solar thermal systems for the construction and modernisation of SOS Children's Villages facilities. As a result, households and businesses in the surrounding area can also be supplied with solar power or clean drinking water.
-
Ecological and economical: Supporting the ecologically sustainable development of communities. By investing in environmental and climate protection technologies, we create local jobs and apprenticeships.
